Forty-six ballots were cast, and the most votes went to incumbents Benny Cartwright, Kath Rogers and steering committee member David Vance.<\/p>\n<p>HTC secretary Mary McKenzie, acting as elections chair, thanked the other candidates (Andrew Dugger, David Lundin and Derrick Roach) for their desire to serve the community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_28234\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28234\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-28234 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-IMG_3433.jpg\" alt=\"Hillcrest Town Council holds annual election\" width=\"600\" height=\"460\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/460;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-28234\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HTC secretary Mary McKenzie acted as elections chair, as president Kath Rogers observed.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Daniel Merk-Benitez did not stand for re-election and was recognized for his service to HTC by state Sen. Toni G. Atkins\u2019 office.<\/p>\n<p>As always, the attendees heard from several community members and representatives, including <strong>Sen. Atkins\u2019 office<\/strong>, <strong>Assemblymember Todd Gloria\u2019s office<\/strong>, <strong>the Stonewall Patrol<\/strong>, <strong>the San Diego LGBT Community Center<\/strong>, <strong>the Hillcrest Business Association<\/strong> y <strong>the Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Marathon weekend<\/strong>, which will occur on June 3-4.<\/p>\n<p>Of special note is Sen. The board worked for several months on a revision to the bylaws, and after a spirited discussion, the new bylaws were overwhelmingly accepted by the majority of HTC members at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The changes expand HTC membership to include the unhoused who live in Hillcrest; restructured the Steering Committee (now the Advisory Committee); and extended to ability to propose changes to the bylaws to the entire HTC membership. The new bylaws can be found on the HTC website.<\/p>\n<p>HTC meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month at the <strong>Joyce Beers Community Center<\/strong>, 3900 Vermont St. Next month, on April 11, HTC will focus on hate crimes with guests from the mayor\u2019s office and the Stonewall Patrol.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-28236 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/HTC-Logo-300x127.jpg\" alt=\"Hillcrest Town Council holds annual election\" width=\"300\" height=\"127\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/127;\" \/>The HTC always welcomes new volunteers.
