{"id":250654,"date":"2016-08-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/a-homecoming-for-lion-king-actor\/"},"modified":"2016-08-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-26T07:00:00","slug":"a-homecoming-for-lion-king-actor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/a-homecoming-for-lion-king-actor\/","title":{"rendered":"A homecoming for \u2018Lion King\u2019 actor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Por Charlene Baldridge\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Actor Nick Cordileone is on the road and coming to a theater near you.<\/p>\n<p>The San Diego native has got his act together.<\/p>\n<p>Having had an exceptionally productive early career at Lamb\u2019s Players (he estimates at least 40 productions) and other San Diego theaters, he left town in 2009, right after the close of the award-winning The Old Globe production of \u201cLobby Hero,\u201d in which he played a leading role.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Nick-Cordileonewebtop.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26312 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Nick-Cordileonewebtop.jpg\" alt=\"Nick Cordileonewebtop\" width=\"605\" height=\"350\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 605px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 605\/350;\" \/><\/a>Cordileone took his newly earned Actors Equity card, his theatrically-inclined wife, Amy, whom he met at Lamb\u2019s, and their infant daughter, Hero, and moved from the family enclave in Little Italy to New York City, where he aspired to become a busy, professional actor.<\/p>\n<p>From Sept. 7 through Oct. 2, San Diegans may catch the fully ripened actor as the comic Timon the Meercat in the North American touring production of the incomparable Broadway show, \u201cThe Lion King,\u201d with which he has been on the road for more than six years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image006web.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-26366 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image006web.jpg\" alt=\"image006web\" width=\"229\" height=\"394\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 229px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 229\/394;\" \/><\/a>The home-schooled Hero, now 13, travels along with dad, who describes the two of them as \u201cthe road team.\u201d She loves the routine and the nomad lifestyle, he said. Amy visits them in almost every city (engagements are booked a minimum of three weeks in each locale).<\/p>\n<p>After the couple\u2019s move to New York, Amy got her doctorate in educational theater from New York University, where she now teaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe can schedule her workload in such a way that she can get out to us pretty often,\u201d Cordileone said. \u201cIt suits our family well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to directing and choreographing, Amy runs what Nick deems \u201ca great program\u201d that advises acting students about the practicalities of the profession. \u201cEverything I\u2019ve found fulfilling in my career,\u201d he said, \u201cshe\u2019s found the equivalent in hers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Was it rough when he first hit New York?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got pretty lucky early on,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a bit of a hustle, going to Equity cattle call auditions, but I was able to get some work off-Broadway and with the Shakespeare Festival of New Jersey. Once I got an agent, it was kind of \u2018no looking back.\u2019 I was all over the country, doing regional theater, which was a great start.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-26-at-10.56.46-AM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-26365 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-26-at-10.56.46-AM-403x1024.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-08-26 at 10.56.46 AM\" width=\"200\" height=\"508\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 200px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 200\/508;\" \/><\/a>\u201c\u2018Lion King\u2019 is kind of like regional theater because we get to stay a whole month in every city. It\u2019s unheard of, really, in theater for sure, a real priceless opportunity. To know what you\u2019re doing for more than a few months at a time is a boon. You can plan a real life that\u2019s more of a typical life than you usually get to experience in the arts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show itself is breathtaking. It still is. When we come to a new city, we get to see the final rehearsal without an audience. I still get emotional even when people don\u2019t have their make up on. It\u2019s the music and the artistry. They\u2019re just beautiful,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs for Timon, he\u2019s so \u2018in the moment\u2019 that he\u2019s on cloud 9 when he finds a grub to eat or sees a star in the sky. Then, at the drop of a hat, he\u2019s running for his life like a chicken with his head cut off, because of some scary sound. He\u2019s a blast to play because the highs are super high and the lows are super low.
