Palmer<\/p>\n<p>Four prominent Uptown artists will be adding their unique flair to the 11th annual ArtWalk @ Liberty Station.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Ashton of Hillcrest, Gregory Bada of City Heights, Michael Carini of Old Town and James Yuransky of Normal Heights will be a part of the family-friendly event that will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14, at Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station.<\/p>\n<p>Ashton is probably best-known locally as the proprietor of Art on 30th, a community art space in the epicenter of North Park\u2019s arts district that is comprised of galleries, studios and class space.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26151\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Treesweb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26151 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Treesweb.jpg\" alt=\"James Yuransky, an artist from Normal Heights, uses a geometric Z-axis projecting from the canvas plane. His deep love of drawing, he said, is what attracted him to the genre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen creating my pieces, whether it&#8217;s engraving or etching, you literally are seeing the direct result of my hand. To me there is a certain raw vulnerability in this and printmaking allowed me to take this love for drawing to another artistic level,\u201d he said. \u201cPrintmaking is very process-heavy as there are many, many steps you must take to get the finished image. I like to call printmaking part drawing, part blacksmithing and part self-punishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A lot can go wrong along the way, he added, but he finds the spontaneous uncertainty to be exhilarating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find the work meditative, the journey rewarding and the level of detail you can achieve highly satisfying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carini, a Point Loma native, describes his style as \u201cacrylic alchemy,\u201d a transformation of the soul.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26153\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26153\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/As-The-Caged-Bird-Singsweb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-26153 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/As-The-Caged-Bird-Singsweb.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cAs the Caged Bird Sings\u201d by Michael Carini of Old Town (Courtesy of the artists)\" width=\"275\" height=\"445\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 275px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 275\/445;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26153\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cAs the Caged Bird Sings\u201d by Michael Carini of Old Town (Courtesy of the artists)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt is about harnessing\u00a0all of the pain and struggles of your life\u00a0and utilizing\u00a0them as a sacrifice of equivalent exchange in the transmutation and\/or creation of something beautiful\u00a0and positive,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is about hope, growth and love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The painter said he\u2019s most inspired by \u201cthe hope of having hope when it feels as if all hope is lost.\u201d He also looks at the creative process as a dance, song or dialogue, with both he and the painting working together until the dance ends, the music stops or the conversation ceases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPainting is\u00a0my vessel of communication, and the only way in which I feel I can truly communicate with the world around me &#8230; a world I don&#8217;t fully understand,\u201d he said. \u201cI am never fully controlled, though I am never fully in control either. The painting and I are partners. It is a relationship of balance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yuranski, a self-described Zedist, will also have works on display. He\u2019ll also be doing an interactive piece that will use small, multi-sided geometric objects people will paint, to create a larger 3D work.<\/p>\n<p>He coined the term Zedism to describe his unique style, he said, adding his works are distinguished by both the use of a geometrical Z-axis projecting from the canvas plane and the incorporation of imagery within that projection.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-9.30.12-AM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-26239 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-08-12-at-9.30.12-AM-300x249.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 9.30.12 AM\" width=\"213\" height=\"177\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 213px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 213\/177;\" \/><\/a>\u201cDoing a live painting with others is a direct connection into the human creative process. It taps into something very primal; sharing, community, building, improving, beautifying our world \u2014 these things make us feel more secure, connected and valuable to our community,\u201d he said, adding that the 16-by-4-foot mural will be painted with the help of volunteers \u201cand a hopefully a steady stream of Artwalk @ Liberty Station attendees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Margie M.
