Palmer<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Community celebrates with Old House Fair, walking tours<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Park\u2019s annual Old House Fair may be best known for its Historical Home Tour, but organizers want people to know that this is just one feature of the family-friendly event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited about this year. The exact addresses will not be provided until the day of the event, and after you have purchased your tickets.<\/p>\n<p>South Park resident Rebecca Tuggle is among those whose homes will be featured in this year\u2019s tour.<\/p>\n<p>Tuggle said she was initially approached by the Old House Fair committee several years ago but since she knew her home would be turning 100 years old in 2016, she decided to hold off until now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn past years I\u2019ve enjoyed touring the historical homes and I\u2019ve particularly enjoyed learning what other owners have done to restore and decorate their homes,\u201d she said, adding that her residence underwent a major restoration in 2012.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25679\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25679\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/house2-1429web.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-25679 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/house2-1429web.jpg\" alt=\"One of the homes on the Historic Home Tour (Illustration by Brandon Hubbard)\" width=\"600\" height=\"464\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/464;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25679\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">One of the homes on the Historic Home Tour (Illustration by Brandon Hubbard)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201c[During the six-month restoration] I wanted to keep historical aspects intact and restore the original aspects, such as the interior wood and fireplace, while upgrading all major systems and installing a smart home system. I also found antique, period-appropriate fixtures from the 1915-20s to add where needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screen-Shot-2016-06-17-at-10.11.50-AM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25677 alignright lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Screen-Shot-2016-06-17-at-10.11.50-AM-312x1024.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2016-06-17 at 10.11.50 AM\" width=\"204\" height=\"670\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 204px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 204\/670;\" \/><\/a>Tuggle said the fair takes great care when it comes to both historical accuracy and in defining design details, which provides guests with a wonderful opportunity to see various forms of historical architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Smelkinson said that while they expect 3,000 people will attend the free street fair, they estimate that 750 folks will purchase tickets for the home tour. They will be on sale in advance at theoldhousefair.com or at the fair. Tour participants will be given with a free booklet that will provide historical details and resource information for each featured residence. All of the homes are within walking distance of the street fair, Smelkinson said, adding that trolley service is also available.<\/p>\n<p>The South Park Business Group hopes this year\u2019s fair will raise $10,000.
