The Spreckels Organ Society will present a concert tribute to Kate Sessions, “The Mother of Balboa Park,” at Spreckels Organ Pavillion (1549 El Prado, #10, Balboa Park) at 2 p.m. The concert, conceived and performed by organist Robert Plimpton, will take place on what would have been Sessions\u2019 158th birthday. Plimpton will be joined by special guests David Lundin from the Balboa Park Heritage Association, and Patricia McAffee, mezzo soprano. The concert will also include a nod to Mme. Shumann-Heink. Opening reception for \u201cVOICES: Honoring Veterans\u201d<\/strong>
\nTuesday, Nov. 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Luxe Gallery (1080 16th St., Fifth Floor, Downtown) at San Diego City College (SDCC) will host this special exhibition telling the stories of 24 veterans. A collaborative effort by SDCC\u2019s graphic design and photography programs, \u201cVOICES\u201d will feature large-scale portraits of veterans (taken by David King) and their stories of service ranging from World War II to present-day Afghanistan and Iraq. The exhibition will also include original drawings, paintings and more from World War II correspondent and illustrator Carol Johnson. Paul Espinosa Film Series<\/strong>

Paul Espinosa\u2019s \u201c\u2026 and the earth did not swallow him\u201d film will be shown at 7 p.m. at the Museum of Photographic Arts (1649 El Prado, Balboa Park). The film \u2014 told through the eyes of 12-year-old Marcos \u2014 is a moving and powerful portrayal of the life of a poor Mexican-American boy and his migrant farmworker family as they struggle to adjust to life in American society. San Diego Conscious Music Fest<\/strong>
\nSaturday, Nov. 14<\/strong><\/p>\n

The San Diego Conscious Music Fest has expanded its original\u00a0concert format into an all-day celebration at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego (4190 Front St., Hillcrest). This year\u2019s event will include an outdoor vendor fair with live music, a performance by the Conscious Community Choir and more. Awards will be presented to the winners of Young Voices songwriting contest who will also perform. Closing the event will be the evening concert with some of the most popular singer-songwriters in the conscious music movement: Karl Anthony, Nathan Aswell, Ray Davis, Gary Lynn Floyd, John Foltz, Peggy Lebo, Faith Rivera, Teri Wilder and The Yes Team. The afternoon festival from 1 \u2013 5 p.m. is free. The Young Voices performances from 5 \u2013 6 p.m. are $10 ($5 for children under 12).
