In 2015, the popular event has grown into Southern California\u2019s largest free, two-day music festival and features 110 acts.<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, the Street Fair now showcases craft beer, the sudsy refreshment San Diego is known for around the globe. (Courtesy of Adams Avenue Business Association)\" width=\"605\" height=\"350\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 605px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 605\/350;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the two-day Adams Avenue Street Fair. <br \/>(Courtesy of Adams Avenue Business Association)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have new restaurants and businesses on Adams Avenue to showcase along with a wine-tasting area to complement our craft beer tasting,\u201d said Scott Kessler, executive director of Adams Avenue Business Association (AABA), which presents the Street Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Weather permitting, organizers expect 100,000 people to attend the two-day event on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27.<\/p>\n<p>Musical headliners included this year, according to Kessler:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>Rugburns<\/strong>: acoustic rock<\/p>\n<p>\u2014Former Stray Cat band member <strong>Lee Rocker<\/strong>: rockabilly<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>The Wailing Souls<\/strong>: reggae<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>HoneyHoney<\/strong>: jazzy indie rock<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>Kid Ramos and the 44s<\/strong>: blues roots rock<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>Stranger<\/strong>: reggae roots rock and jazz<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<strong>Steve Poltz<\/strong>: singer\/songwriter<\/p>\n<p>Between the music, the beer and the wine, those who crave munchies can purchase food from dozens of vendors. There will be \u201call kinds of festival food including: barbecue, sausage, vegetarian, Asian, Greek, Ethiopian, Mexican, pizza and all sorts of desserts like shaved ice, ice cream, cheesecake in a cup, homemade root beer, funnel cake,\u201d Kessler said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Adams-Avenue-Street-Fair-map-JUMP-PAGE-AS-LARGE-AS-POSSIBLEweb.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22797 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Adams-Avenue-Street-Fair-map-JUMP-PAGE-AS-LARGE-AS-POSSIBLEweb.png\" alt=\"Adams Avenue Street Fair map-JUMP PAGE-AS LARGE AS POSSIBLEweb\" width=\"600\" height=\"305\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/305;\" \/><\/a>Hundreds of arts and crafts exhibitors will be set up for show and sale. It\u2019s part of a slew of activities to entertain the masses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Adams Street Fair has attractions for every age group and interest; from carnival rides to beer gardens, musical performances to people watching, alternative shopping and dining,\u201d Kessler said.<\/p>\n<p>The Street Fair is one of the main money-making ventures for the Adams Avenue Business Association (AABA) \u2014 a nonprofit corporation that formed in the early 1980s for the purpose of revitalizing and marketing the Adams Avenue business corridor \u2014 and Kessler puts it into perspective: \u201cThe Street Fair accounts for approximately 50 percent of the AABA\u2019s annual income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, the beer gardens and the beer tasting aren\u2019t the chief revenue sources from the Street Fair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe craft beer gardens are just one of the featured and diverse offerings the Street Fair provides,\u201d Kessler said. \u201cThe beer sales account for only 10 percent of the event\u2019s income stream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tourism also helps boost attendance. \u201cThe Street Fair draws about half its audience from the city of San Diego, 25 percent from the county and 25 percent from outside the county,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22798\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22798\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Beat-Farmers-crowd-shotweb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22798 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Beat-Farmers-crowd-shotweb-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Beat Farmers performed at a recent Adams Avenue Street Fair. Kessler attributes that success to hard work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been staffed by a core group of community members\u00a0that take great pride in their work while being managed by professional economic development staff from the Adams Avenue Business Association,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Several years ago, the AABA introduced a phone app to promote their business members and events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe phone app has been operable for the past 2.5 years and features the AABA\u2019s special events as well as our local business directory. The purpose of the app is to make information more easily accessible,\u201d Kessler said.<\/p>\n<p>The Street Fair started in 1981 at the corner of School and Mansfield streets.
