{"id":248991,"date":"2015-07-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-31T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/buyer-of-pernicanos-property-to-speak-to-uptown-planners\/"},"modified":"2015-07-31T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T07:00:00","slug":"buyer-of-pernicanos-property-to-speak-to-uptown-planners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/buyer-of-pernicanos-property-to-speak-to-uptown-planners\/","title":{"rendered":"El comprador de la propiedad de Pernicano hablar\u00e1 con Uptown Planners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Por Catherine Spearnak<\/p>\n<p>The Uptown Planners and the public may hear the first ideas about the development for the long-empty Pernicano\u2019s Restaurant site when the advisory group meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Joyce Beers Center in Hillcrest.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The once-famous Italian restaurant, frequented by celebrities and locals alike, has been vacant for more than three decades despite pleas by Hillcrest residents and local politicians to either reopen or demolish the decrepit building.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22167\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22167\" style=\"width: 425px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Pernicanos.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-22167 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sduptownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Pernicanos.jpg\" alt=\"Pernicanos\" width=\"425\" height=\"284\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 425px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 425\/284;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pernicano\u2019s restaurant has been empty for decades, but its prospective buyer wants to speak to the Uptown Planners on Aug. 4.<br \/> (Photo from Uptown News archives)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jeannine Savory, Realtor for the property, told <em>Uptown News<\/em> that the family is in escrow with a specific buyer, who will be revealed in \u201cone to two weeks.\u201d However, she said, it will be one to two years before the sale is closed and development could begin.<\/p>\n<p>The developer asked to appear before the Uptown Planners, Savory said, \u201cbecause they want to be sensitive to the community and not compromise the integrity of the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pernicano\u2019s is located in the middle of the Hillcrest community, bound by Fifth and Sixth avenues, and south of University Avenue. Owner George Pernicano has refused to sell for years, but now his twin sons, Gary and Larry, are in charge of the property. The Pernicanos are seeking a buyer who will develop a hotel and possibly a mixed-use property on the small acreage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Pernicano site has been the subject of speculation for many years,\u201d Uptown Planners member Tom Mullaney said in an email to the <em>Uptown News.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy hope is that\u00a0the owner\/developer will include some public open space in the design, such as a small plaza or landscaped area.\u00a0There is so little open space in Hillcrest, so few public gathering places.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Catherine Spearnak es una escritora independiente que vive en San Diego.
