{"id":244405,"date":"2011-07-11T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-07-11T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/poster-boys\/"},"modified":"2011-07-11T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-07-11T07:00:00","slug":"poster-boys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/poster-boys\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Poster Boys\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moxie and Diversionary Collaborate to produce U.S. premiere<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Charlene Baldridge | <\/strong>Reportero SDUN<\/p>\n<p>The Moxie and Diversionary theatres have a history of co-productions, and Diversionary\u2019s former artistic director Dan Kirsch calls their latest collaboration, \u201cPoster Boys,\u201d \u201cone of the best new plays\u201d he\u2019s read in a long time.<\/p>\n<p>Penned by Canadian playwright Michelle Riml, the play explores \u201cconsumerism, office affairs, gay relationships, religion, love and truth,\u201d according to straight.com, an online publication from Vancouver, where the play had its premiere in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Moxie Theatre\u2019s artistic director, Delicia Turner Sonnenberg, says the \u201cposter boys,\u201d gay couple Jack and Carson, represent the norm in the play, while the lead straight character, Caroline, is an outsider.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline, a fast-talking, seem ingly worldly advertising executive, hires Jack and Carson to promote a client\u2019s \u201cdiversity\u201d campaign. But when Jack turns out to be her ex fianc\u00e9, who left her waiting at the altar, Caroline\u2019s slick fa\u00e7ade begins to crumble. Confronting unresolved feelings about her former lover, Caroline is thrown into panic mode.<\/p>\n<p>Further complicating the situation is the fact that Carson, Jack\u2019s new lover, is a devout Catholic, and the Catholic Church is protesting the client\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Riml\u2019s inspiration for \u201cPoster Boys\u201d was a Vancouver news story about the Catholic Church\u2019s opposition to a Canadian credit union\u2019s campaign celebrating partnerships with the GLBT community. Yet despite its serious subject matter, Sonnenberg assures the play elicits lots of laughs. \u201cThere\u2019s a hell of a lot of truth mixed in amongst the laughter,\u201d as one Canadian critic put it. Moxie and Diversionary share a passion for producing new work that explores what it means to be human.
