OK pet lovers\u2014pucker up and get ready to share the love at a couple of canine-centric celebrations that benefit needy pups. Along with haute (doggy) couture and top-notch noshing, these upcoming events offer the chance to extend a helping paw to man’s\u2014and woman\u2019s\u2014 best friend.<\/p>\n

From 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 5, those fabulously flat-faced, furry fashionistas will strut their stuff in their finest outfits during the Pugs \u2018n Kisses Wine and Cheese Fashion Show at Fido & Co. Canine Country Club in Hillcrest. The $20 per-person admission fee includes four glasses of wine, a cheese-and-cracker spread, and sweets galore (nonalcoholic beverages are also available). Last year\u2019s inaugural event attracted some 100 dog lovers eager to watch nattily attired pugs work the runway, enter their own dogs into the show, or both. The modest fashion show entry fee\u2014$5 per pug\u2014includes a souvenir photo taken by a professional \u201cpugographer.\u201d The event, which also offers a boutique and pug kissing booth and the chance to win themed raffle baskets, is sure to put a smile on your pug, er, mug.<\/p>\n

Bowsers of all breeds\u2014and their owners\u2014can also come raise a glass (or lap a bowl) at the Smooches & Pooches Yappy Hour, 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 12, at La Jolla Brew House. Held on the Brew House\u2019s lovely heated patio, this fundraiser for Southern California German Shepherd Rescue includes pet- and people-appropriate treats, a kissing booth, adoptable puppies, drink specials ($5 Smoochy Poochy martini menu, $4 pints and wines), Cupid\u2019s Dinner specials, and even a canine menu. Browse among vendors such as Stella & Dot (jewelry), Sunrise Leashes (guess), visit with a pet psychic, and enter a raffle for goodies ranging from grooming and gift baskets and pet day care for Fido, to theater tickets and golf packages for the two-legged set.<\/p>\n
