Scannell named editor of Uptown News

\"Scannell<\/a> North Park resident Christy Scannell has joined San Diego Uptown News as editor.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to have Christy as part of our team,\u201d said David Mannis, San Diego Uptown News publisher. \u201cShe brings years of writing and editing experience to our company. Her understanding of the Uptown community will be a benefit to readers, who can expect in-depth news as well as compelling feature stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scannell has worked in print communications for more than 20 years, most recently as a freelance writer and editor. In the late \u201990s she owned and operated The San Diego Irish Reporter, serving the city\u2019s Irish population. She has been on staff and freelanced for several newspapers, magazines and Web sites. In 2007 Simon and Schuster published her novel series, \u201cSecrets from Lulu\u2019s Caf\u00e9.\u201d Scannell also teaches writing online and is a former journalism instructor at Grossmont College. She is a board member of the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.<\/p>\n

Originally from Ohio, Scannell has lived in North Park since 1998 and is an elected member and secretary of the North Park Planning Committee.<\/p>\n
