John Watson has joined San Diego Downtown News as a corporate advertising sales consultant.<\/p>\n

A Downtown resident, Watson came out of a 1\u00bd-year retirement to join the newspaper after a 30-year career heading his own corporations specializing in plastic manufacturing nationally and abroad.<\/p>\n

Although Watson has a vast amount of business acumen and inventive expertise \u2014 he holds three patents and one copyright \u2014 he said he has always been a salesman first.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though I owned the companies, I\u2019ve basically been a glorified salesman for 30 years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

What can business owners expect when Watson walks in their door?<\/p>\n

\u201cA great smile, a warm attitude, a concern that I can get them into what\u2019s good for their business \u2014 not so much that big dollar sale as much as what\u2019s really going to suit them, what\u2019s going to meet their budget and give us a long term relationship,\u201d he said. \u201cRelationships are everything to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Watson was educated at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology where he took a strong interest in polymer fusion.<\/p>\n

He now lives at 14th and Broadway, \u201cright in the heart of everything,\u201d has three children, three grandchildren and one European Doberman weighing 120 pounds that he loves to take for walks in the city.<\/p>\n
