LOCAL RESIDENTS TO REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cabrillo National Monument will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the U.S. entrance into World War II during a special event scheduled from 10 a.m.\u20134 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.<\/p>\n

The national park in Point Loma will host \u201cRemembering Pearl Harbor: Honoring the Past and Inspiring the Future,\u201d featuring tours of the restored military bunker, a flyover by a WWII aircraft, and a Lady Liberty Car Show.<\/p>\n

Park rangers will lead guided walks and present programs detailing what life was like in the U.S. during the war.<\/p>\n

Men and women who lived on the home front in San Diego during the war will talk about their experiences.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the park\u2019s Visitor Center will host \u201cMeet the Authors & Artists\u201d gatherings on Dec. 10\u201311 at various times both days. Meet and greet Kim Fahlen and Karen Scanlon, authors of \u201cLighthouses of San Diego,\u201d along with authors Kenneth Glaze (\u201cThe Illustrated Fort Rosecrans\u201d) and Bill Griswold (\u201cCabrillo National Monument: An Essay in Photographs\u201d).<\/p>\n

After 100 years, Cabrillo National Monument is gearing up for its next century of operation. Admission to the park is $10 per car. Visitors can tour the Old Point Loma Lighthouse or explore the tidepools from 9 a.m.\u20135 p.m. daily.<\/p>\n

DOCENTS SOUGHT BY MARITIME MUSEUM<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you\u2019ve ever wanted to volunteer as a docent, the Maritime Museum \u2014 located along the North Embarcadero at 1492 N. Harbor Drive \u2014 is offering opportunities. As one of the top ranked maritime museums in the world, the Maritime Museum of San Diego has a worldwide reputation for excellence when it comes to restoring, maintaining and operating historic vessels, including the Star of India, the world\u2019s oldest active ship.<\/p>\n

Docent training classes will start in January and volunteers will learn maritime history from around the world, with a focus on the 16th century through the 21st century, through artifacts and vessels in the museum\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n

The 13-week training will be held on the upper deck of the Berkeley ferryboat. Classes begin Jan. 9, from 9 a.m.\u201312:30 p.m., and will continue for 13 consecutive Mondays thereafter.<\/p>\n

HYATT GETS TOP HONORS FROM EMPLOYEES<\/h3>\n

Downtown\u2019s Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, owned by Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. since 2011, was recently selected as the No. 1 Top Workplace in San Diego by the San Diego Union-Tribune.<\/p>\n

Results for the Top Workplace lists are gleaned solely from an employee feedback survey \u2014 administered by leading research firm WorkplaceDynamics, LLC \u2014 which specializes in improvements of the workplace and organizational health.<\/p>\n

Employees responded to questions regarding various aspects of the workplace culture, including alignment, execution and connection, among others.<\/p>\n
