{"id":238533,"date":"2016-07-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-01T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/morphing-with-comic-con\/"},"modified":"2016-07-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-01T07:00:00","slug":"morphing-with-comic-con","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/morphing-with-comic-con\/","title":{"rendered":"Morphing with Comic-Con"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Symphony\u2019s fantastical adventures with live music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>por David Dixon<\/p>\n<p>Last summer, the San Diego Symphony got a lot of worldwide attention for performing unannounced live music from \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d for 6,500 fans during Comic-Con International.<\/p>\n<p>This year during the annual convention, the Symphony has even more on its plate, contributing to an open-air movie premiere and two video-game-related evenings at Copley Symphony Hall.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>On July 20, timed for the 50th anniversary of Gene Rodenberry\u2019s \u201cStar Trek\u201d television series, Paramount Studios \u2014 in partnership with IMAX Corporation and the San Diego Symphony \u2014 will present the world premiere of \u201cStar Trek Beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10403\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10403\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/FINAL_SYMPHONY_ABROAD_1942.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10403 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/FINAL_SYMPHONY_ABROAD_1942-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Eckedard Stier, composer for \u201cFinal Symphony\u201d (Photo by Philippe Ramakers)\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10403\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eckedard Stier, composer for \u201cFinal Symphony\u201d (Photo by Philippe Ramakers)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Taking place at the Symphony\u2019s Bayside Summer Nights venue at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, Paramount has hired the San Diego Symphony to perform the film\u2019s score, written by Michael Giacchino, live during the screening.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the first time an IMAX film has played outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStar Trek Beyond\u201d stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zo\u00eb Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba. Director Justin Lin and cast members will appear at the special screening.<\/p>\n<p>The night is expected to be a bittersweet one for all those in attendance, since Yelchin died tragically June 19, after being crushed by his own vehicle outside his Los Angeles home.<\/p>\n<p>Expect a tribute to the talented young actor.<\/p>\n<p>The film will be released to theaters and IMAX on July 22.<\/p>\n<p>On July 21 the San Diego Symphony will feature \u201cFinal Symphony,\u201d which has music from \u201cFinal Fantasy VI,\u201d \u201cVII,\u201d and \u201cX.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Producer Thomas Bocker wanted to create a video game concert, with no visuals, and only contain music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach is to retell the stories of the games through music, without the need for video screens and game footage,\u201d he said. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to be familiar with the \u2018Final Fantasy\u2019 franchise in order to enjoy the music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conductor and non-gamer, Eckehard Stier, is amazed at the emotional power of the melodies from Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe use of classical elements, the intelligent combination of the music and its deep emotional impact is just breathtaking,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10404\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10404\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/link2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10404 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/link2-300x300.png\" alt=\"Link from \u201cThe Legend of Zelda\u201d (Courtesy San Diego Symphony)\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10404\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Link from \u201cThe Legend of Zelda\u201d<br \/>(Courtesy San Diego Symphony)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bocker and Stier have traveled around the world to help present \u201cFinal Symphony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Bocker, a performance at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan made for a memorable experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinal Symphony\u2019 was so well received that our concert became the first ever performance of orchestral video game music in the country to be honored with standing ovations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinal Fantasy VII\u201d is considered to be one of the best role-playing video games of all time. Fans should be excited for the second half of the event, which is a 45-minute symphony based on \u201cVII.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The musical composition is the highlight for Stier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe symphony is demanding for everybody \u2014 orchestra, conductor, and the audience,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it is a fantastic experience. Even for the regular listener, it will be an absolute surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Friday, July 22, includes the third installment of \u201cThe Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses\u201d at Copley Symphony Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike \u201cFinal Symphony,\u201d music from Koji Kondo, Hajime Wakai, and other composers, is used with clips from popular games in the series. Some of the famous entries acknowledged are \u201cOcarina of Time,\u201d \u201cA Link to the Past,\u201d and \u201cTwilight Princess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What makes \u201cSymphony of the Goddesses-Master Quest\u201d unique is that melodies from Nintendo\u2019s 3DS game, \u201cTri Force Heroes,\u201d are part of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSymphony of the Goddesses\u201d has received a lot of acclaim and was a part of an episode of \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert.\u201d Conductor Amy Andersson and musically gifted artists are trying to give audiences an epic experience.<\/p>\n<p>Symphony musicians are continuing to show their versatility by undertaking three extremely unique presentations. Given that the attendance for Comic-Con has risen to over 130,000, fans should buy tickets to these stand-alone events in advance.<\/p>\n<p>With the convention becoming increasingly difficult to get into, it\u2019s refreshing that the orchestra allows the ability to enjoy the festivities for those not fortunate enough to have scored a badge.<\/p>\n<p>The world premiere of Paramount Studio\u2019s \u201cStar Trek Beyond\u201d will be shown July 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, located directly behind the San Diego Convention Center.<\/p>\n<p>Information on tickets for this special screening has not yet been made available but is expected in the coming weeks. A number of tickets were distributed at a recent \u201cStar Trek\u201d fan event in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinal Symphony: A Final Fantasy Concert\u201d and \u201cThe Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses-Master Quest\u201d will be performed on July 21 and 22, respectively, at Jacobs Music Center, Copley Symphony Hall, located at 750 B St., Downtown.
