{"id":237570,"date":"2015-04-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-04-03T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/exploring-balboa-park-april-2015\/"},"modified":"2015-04-03T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-04-03T07:00:00","slug":"exploring-balboa-park-april-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/exploring-balboa-park-april-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Explorando el Parque Balboa Abril 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Por Johnny McDonald<\/p>\n<p><strong>Music through the years<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The distinctive sounds from a keyboard instrument noted from the Baroque musical period will be heard on April 16 at the Museum of Art as an entertainment feature of its Centennial Art of Music monthly series.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6505\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6505\" style=\"width: 233px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Johnny-McDonaldweb.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6505 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Johnny-McDonaldweb.jpg\" alt=\"Johnny McDonald\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 233px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 233\/300;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6505\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">johnny mcdonald<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The music will come from the harpsichordist artistry of Takae Ohnishi, a chamber musician and continuo player who will present a concert of early Baroque music, paired with contemporary compositions from Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Reputation coordinator Austin Henson remarked that \u201cClassics Today\u201d described Ohnishi\u2019s performance as \u201cmasterful,\u201d and praised its \u201cvitality and impressively differentiated articulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Art of Music\u00a0concert series, curated by Jann Pasler, professor of music at UC San Diego, is described as a versatile\u00a0intersection between music and art.\u00a0The series will continue throughout the year on the third Thursday of each month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs for the actual music within the Museum, these performances are specific to certain galleries, so it won\u2019t be piped around the whole building,\u201d Henson said.<\/p>\n<p>Ohnishi has been the principal harpsichordist at Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, as well as being a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Scharoun Ensemble, Gardner Chamber Orchestra, and continuo player with Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and Bach Collegium San Diego. She has performed at the Boston Early Music Festival, the American Academy in Rome, and took part in the complete Brandenburg Concertos at the Gardner Museum directed by Paula Robison.<\/p>\n<p>As a performer of contemporary music, Ms. Ohnishi appeared as a guest artist at the Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano Performance held at the New England Conservatory of Music.<\/p>\n<p>Ohnishi graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music, and holds a master\u2019s degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from Stony Brook University.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, Ms. Ohnishi has been Lecturer of Harpsichord and Baroque Chamber Music at UCSD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tending to 90 car clubs\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once a month officials of the San Diego Association of Car Clubs conduct meetings at\u00a0the San Diego Auto Museum to determine show dates, handle insurance needs and tend to a host of other details for the county\u2019s 90 car clubs. Although board members are there for a formal session, the\u00a0room can fill with visitors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnybody who wants to attend can,\u201d said Steve Lordigyan, president of the SDACC. \u201cThe first Tuesday of the month we field all sorts of questions. They want to know about joining a club, how to prepare a car and meet the specs. We have even had people seeking a job or a shop owner announcing a grand opening.\u00a0We\u2019re there to help them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lordigyan, who lives in Ramona, keeps a busy schedule himself, as a show promoter in Pacific Beach, at Belmont Park and 25 times a year on the main street in El Cajon. His East County shows begin April 22 and continue each Wednesday night through September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elsewhere in the Park<\/strong> \u2014 The <strong>viejo globo<\/strong> will celebrate its 80th anniversary as part of the Centennial Celebration with its full roster of regular season plays and a summer season featuring Shakespeare on stage and in film. \u2026 On another musical note,\u00a0Berkley Hart Selis Twang will perform April 17 in another Rock in the Park musical series at the <strong>Fleet Science Center<\/strong>.
