The tradition began with Acoustic Christmas, then evolved into Frosty the Showman, Nightmare Before Xmas, and now it\u2019s current incarnation, Wrex the Halls.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After last year\u2019s show\u2014with headlining acts The Killers, Passion Pit, Tegan and Sara, and Youngblood Hawke\u2014expectations were at an all-time high when this year\u2019s lineup was announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try our best to put together a lineup of bands that 91X listeners would want to see live,\u201d said Christy Taylor, the radio station\u2019s program director. \u201cThere\u2019s always pressure, 91X has set the bar really high with our shows.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4765\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4765\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/CTE-White_Seamless_472_BWColin-Lane-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4765 lazyload\" alt=\"Cage the Elephant headlines 91X\u2019s Wrex the Halls at the Valley View Casino Center in Point Loma. (Courtesy BB Gun Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s safe to say Taylor has lived up to those expectations.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s rendition of Wrex the Halls, being held at the Valley View Casino Center in Point Loma on Dec. 8, aims to build on that tradition with some of the biggest bands in the music industry today.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard to beat a night that features performances by Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, The Silent Comedy, Alt-J, and J Roddy Walston &amp; the Business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis show was strategically built to be made up of bands that can draw crowds on their own,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cPlus Queens of the Stone Age haven\u2019t played in San Diego in over five years so we knew having them on the lineup would be huge!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This will be Taylor\u2019s second year in a row running the booking for the station\u2019s signature holiday show and she successfully followed up a stellar lineup from last year with yet another great collection of big name acts that are sure to deliver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main goal was to keep the lineup cohesive,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year\u2019s show is filled with bands that are really big draws on their own, plus many of the bands on this year\u2019s bill have been playing the festival circuit this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4762\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/130516-01-272-copy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4762 lazyload\" alt=\"Artic Monkey will make an appearence at 91x's annual holiday show. ( courtest of Live Nation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Valley View Casino Center\u2014the Wrex the Halls venue formerly known as the San Diego Sports Arena\u2014boasts the largest indoor capacity in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the third\u00a0year in a row it has completely sold out,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cGet there early, you won\u2019t want to miss a minute of this show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While this year\u2019s Wrex the Halls is currently sold out, there are still plenty of chances for listeners to see some great live music.<\/p>\n<p>For those unable to attend the Dec. 8 show, 91X will also be producing Holiday Bonus Show at the same venue on Dec. 6 and tickets are still available.
