{"id":236326,"date":"2013-07-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-07-02T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/touching-warriors-duet-to-see-fringe-fest-debut\/"},"modified":"2013-07-02T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2013-07-02T07:00:00","slug":"touching-warriors-duet-to-see-fringe-fest-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/touching-warriors-duet-to-see-fringe-fest-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Tocando &#039;Warriors&#039; Duet&#039; para ver el debut del Fringe Fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anthony King | Assistant Editor Downtown News<\/p>\n<p>Presented as part of the inaugural San Diego Fringe Festival, Circle Circle dot dot\u2019s production of \u201cThe Warriors\u2019 Duet,\u201d directed by Anne Gehman and Katherine Harroff, will see three shows only: Friday, July 5 at 11 a.m., July 6 at 12:30 p.m. and July 7 at 5 p.m. The performances are at the 10th Avenue Theatre\u2019s cabaret space, located at 930 10th Ave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018Warriors\u2019 Duet\u2019 is a celebration of love, life and language,\u201d the theater company said in press material, and features the poetic words of Laura Jeanne Morefield coupled with Gehman\u2019s choreography. The play, however, was written by Morefield\u2019s mother, theater critic and word-lover Charlene Baldridge.<\/p>\n<p>After Morefield died of complications from cancer, Baldridge edited and published \u201cThe Warrior\u2019s Stance,\u201d a collection of her daughter\u2019s poetry that dealt primarily with the cancer diagnosis. The Fringe Festival production stems from that collection, based on both Morefield\u2019s and Baldridge\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p>As the play unfolds, a mother is searching for her missing daughter. The piece incorporates music and dance to tell the story of their relationship, one that is \u201cfraught\u201d and \u201ccompetitive,\u201d the theater company said.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/47.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3680 lazyload\" alt=\"47\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sandiegodowntownnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/47-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018The Warriors&#8217; Duet\u2019 is the act they never performed [and] the book they didn&#8217;t have time to write,\u201d the company said, and if rehearsal pictures posted on the Circle Circle dot dot website are any indication, the final production will be an incredibly emotional and artistic show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled and honored to have the great opportunity to produce this beautiful piece with Charlene\u2019s blessing and encouragement,\u201d Harroff said in the press material. Harroff is Circle Circle dot dot artistic director, and is also serving as associate director for the Fringe Festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking our lead from the fluid poetic text, co-director and choreographer Anne Gehman and I are creating a whimsical dance-theatre dream backdrop to explore the enchanting bond between a mother and daughter that is unhinged \u2026 but never wavers, following the diagnosis and ultimate outcome of a terminal illness,\u201d Harroff said.<\/p>\n<p>Baldrige said when she was approached by Harroff about bringing her work to the stage, she was \u201chonored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had no idea what she planned,\u201d Baldridge said. \u201cI knew only that she loved the piece and that I trusted her as an artist and a director. I&#8217;m thrilled at her casting \u2026 and curious \u2026 about everything else including the use of the male presences she felt hovering over the work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter meeting with all four women, including choreographer Anne Gehman, to discuss the piece and answer questions, I set them free to become acquainted with Laura through her words. I think [Laura has] captivated everyone through her legacy of humor and love of life,\u201d Baldridge said.<\/p>\n<p>Circle Circle dot dot representatives said they are proud to be a part of the first Fringe Festival in San Diego, joining \u201camazing organizations from all over the globe\u201d to present a number of \u201cinnovative shows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Warriors\u2019 Duet\u201d features actors Kathi Copeland, Samantha Ginn, Shaun Tuazon, Soroya Rowley, Matt Carney, Stephanie Smith, Maria Juan and Desiree Cuizon. Ginn, Tuazon and Rowley are Circle Circle dot dot company members.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers said tickets for the three shows are selling fast, and anticipate at least one show to sell out before the festival itself opens Monday, July 1.
