Pittsford, a Mission Valley architect who serves on the board and was recently appointed to chair the membership subcommittee.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The local planning group is the first stop in the development process in San Diego. Pittsford explains the duties of board members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou make recommendations to the City Council, Planning Commission, city staff and other governmental agencies on land-use matters, specifically concerning the preparation of, adoption of, implementation of, or amendment to the General Plan or land-use plan when a plan relates to the Mission Valley community boundaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Although serving on the board is purely as a volunteer, members are required by the city to take a course, either online or in person, on how to responsibly do the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be an eligible member of the community,\u201d Pittsford said, \u201can individual must be at least 18 years of age and shall be affiliated with the community as one of the following: property owner (residence or business), property taxpayer (residence or business), resident (owner or renter), or Mission Valley businessperson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each category has six positions, so a full board consists of 24 members.<\/p>\n<p>Pittsford was elected to the board to fill a businessperson seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur firm, SGPA, has been fortunate to have been located here and we have been involved with many projects in the Valley for over 30 years,\u201d he said. \u201cMy only subcommittee is that of membership, which is new and this is one of my first official acts.
