Want to volunteer to serve on the Community Plan Update Subcommittee to help determine the future of Mission Valley?<\/p>\n

The city of San Diego has tasked the Mission Valley Planning Group to update the Community Plan, an important document that guides future development. The timing is apt, since Mission Valley is expected to more than double in population in the next 10 to 15 years.<\/p>\n

An interest meeting will be held from 3 \u2013 4:45 p.m. July 10 at Mission Valley Library\u2019s Community Room. The deadline to apply is July 24.<\/p>\n

A lottery to pick 11 volunteers will be conducted from noon \u2013 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at the library\u2019s Community Room. Candidates must attend the lottery for a chance to be selected.<\/p>\n

The 11 volunteers will join 12 other subcommittee members already selected from the membership of the Mission Valley Planning Group. The city\u2019s Planning Department has established criteria for eligibility, according to Nancy Graham, senior planner assigned to oversee Mission Valley.<\/p>\n

The remaining spots will include six at-large seats, plus one each representing a resident tenant; resident or non-resident property owner; business owner or representative; employee of Mission Valley-based business, organization and\/or agency; and a student at a Mission Valley educational facility.<\/p>\n

In January, Dottie Surdi, chair of the Mission Valley Planning Group, appointed the 12 members from her group who will serve on the Community Plan Update Subcommittee. John Nugent will be the subcommittee\u2019s chair, and Andrew Michajlenko and Elizabeth Leventhal will serve as vice chairs. Other members will be Deborah Bossmeyer, Paul\u00a0Brown, Perry Dealy, Alan Grant, Rob Huntsel, Karen Ruggels, Marco Sessa, Surdi and Josh Wiselberg.<\/p>\n
