{"id":229366,"date":"2017-03-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/honoring-neighborhood-icon-isnt-easy\/"},"modified":"2017-03-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T07:00:00","slug":"honoring-neighborhood-icon-isnt-easy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/honoring-neighborhood-icon-isnt-easy\/","title":{"rendered":"Honoring neighborhood icon isn\u2019t easy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Doug Curlee | Editor at Large<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The people around Tuxedo Park in San Carlos loved Jim Brannick, and they want to make sure he\u2019s not forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Back In September, we told you about the 83-year-old neighbor who came to the park just about every day with a smile and a good word for all his two-legged friends, and pockets bulging with doggie treats for his four-legged buddies.<\/p>\n<p>Brannick\u2019s big heart gave out on him and in the wake of his passing, people started talking about how to remember him.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when the trouble started.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble might be too strong a word, but disagreement quickly sprouted between two camps \u2014 those who wanted to rename Tuxedo Park after Brannick, and those who wanted some sort of much smaller remembrance of him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4663\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4663\" style=\"width: 605px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/missiontimescourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-tuxedo-park.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4663 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/missiontimescourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/web-tuxedo-park.jpg\" alt=\"Honoring neighborhood icon isn\u2019t easy\" width=\"605\" height=\"350\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 605px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 605\/350;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tuxedo Park in San Carlos will retain its name after a compromise between residents who wanted to change the name to Jim Brannik Park and residents who wanted to keep the original. <em>(Yelp)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There were arguments between people on both sides of the issue, a few face to face, but the vast majority on the local social media site, NextDoor San Carlos.<\/p>\n<p>Hard feelings were starting to become more evident, to the embarrassment of many people who used to socialize with Jim daily.<\/p>\n<p>This all came to a head, more or less, at the last meeting of the Allied Gardens Community Council. Some angry words were spoken, and more feelings were hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, someone said, \u201clet\u2019s take it out in the parking lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uh-oh.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Aydelotte and Heidi Vogel weren\u2019t looking to pull out their six-shooters and do combat, though. They were looking to reach a possible compromise.<\/p>\n<p>Vogel\u2019s side was looking to change the name of the park itself, which was a non-starter so far as Aydelotte\u2019s people were concerned.
