The San Diego Hall of Champions recently bestowed prestigious post-season honors to three players who were named to the First-Team All-Eastern League squad. Lady Patriot Julia Ronney, the Eastern League singles champion, was named Player of the Year. Senior Stasia Khinich and sophomore Nikki Wakeland earned First-Team All-League Doubles honors. All three received Breitbard Certificates of Athletic Achievement for their athletic efforts.<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3127\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3127\" style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/missiontimescourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PHHS-Julia-Ronney-is-Eastern-League-Player-of-the-Year.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3127 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/missiontimescourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/PHHS-Julia-Ronney-is-Eastern-League-Player-of-the-Year-294x300.jpg\" alt=\"Julia Ronney (Courtesy of Karen Ronney)\" width=\"294\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 294px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 294\/300;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Julia Ronney (Courtesy of Karen Ronney)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThese young ladies worked very hard year-round to maintain and improve their games and it showed,\u201d said Patriot Coach Cheryl Gilbert. \u201cTheir dedication was to be admired and they set the bar for their teammates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ronney, a junior, clinched the singles title and top honors without dropping a set. For that accomplishment, she was named Player of the Year by a coaches\u2019 vote. Ronney is also a three-time All-League recipient and the 2014 doubles champion with partner Hailey Broderick. Khinich and Wakeland were outstanding singles players for Patrick Henry and transitioned to doubles for post-season play. The duo finished second overall in league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seemed like a natural fit to bring Nikki and Stasia together in doubles,\u201d said Patriot Assistant Coach Karen Brown. \u201cThey were very good friends off the court and their doubles skills were a perfect match.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The three Lady Patriots were joined by the \u201csister\u201d teams of twin seniors Ali and Paulina Nguyen and siblings senior Alex and junior Jade Loucks, who respectively finished fifth and sixth in the Eastern League. \u201cWe understood each other without saying a word,\u201d said Ali Nguyen. \u201cAll I had to do was look at Paulina and she knew what I was thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This group of seven outstanding players was an integral part of the driving force that helped Patrick Henry place second in the CIF Division II Team Championships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great experience being on the same team with my sister and being her doubles partner,\u201d said Jade Loucks. \u201cIt brought us closer together.
