{"id":224736,"date":"2017-11-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-24T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sdnews.com\/young-landscape-architect-works-to-shape-the-future\/"},"modified":"2017-11-24T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-24T08:00:00","slug":"young-landscape-architect-works-to-shape-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.sdnews.com\/es\/young-landscape-architect-works-to-shape-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Joven paisajista trabaja para dar forma al futuro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Por Delle Willet<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As a kid, Nate Magnusson always wanted to be an architect.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up in Tempe, Arizona, Magnusson was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright\u2019s architecture, and had opportunities to explore several of his commercial, institutional and residential projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose early experiences helped sharpen my vision for design,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5724\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5724\" style=\"width: 605px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Nate-Magnusson.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5724 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Nate-Magnusson.jpg\" alt=\"Young landscape architect works to shape the future\" width=\"605\" height=\"350\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 605px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 605\/350;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5724\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nate Magnusson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And after his first two years studying at the School of Architecture &amp; Environmental Design at Arizona State University, Magnusson changed his major to landscape architecture, \u201c\u2026 as it resonated better with my goal of connecting people with nature through design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although he still has a love for architecture, Magnusson appreciates being a landscape architect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, working on projects from all shapes and sizes, I\u2019m able to see the communities who benefit from our hard work and dedication to elevate the public and private spaces throughout San Diego and Southern California,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As one of the younger presidents of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), San Diego chapter, Magnusson has brought passionate energy to the 40-year-old chapter and is helping to formulate its reputation as one of the most active of the organization\u2019s 50 chapters in the country.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5789\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5789\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Lake-Skinner-Rec-area-splash-pad-and-new-inclusive-playground.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5789 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Lake-Skinner-Rec-area-splash-pad-and-new-inclusive-playground.jpg\" alt=\"Young landscape architect works to shape the future\" width=\"600\" height=\"328\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 600px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 600\/328;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5789\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Magnusson designed the Lake Skinner recreation area splash pad and new<br \/>inclusive playground. <em>(Cortes\u00eda del Grupo de Dise\u00f1o Schmidt)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Magnusson first joined ASLA in 2011, serving as vice president of community outreach. This year he has been serving as president and when his term ends, he will continue on as immediate past-president and said he\u2019ll still be heavily involved in the chapter\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>As president, Magnusson co-chaired the ASLA 38th annual golf tournament on Sept. 11. In addition to raising $5,000 for their community grant, he challenged the members to raise an additional $3,000 for the 9\/11 Memorial in New York City, which they did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I visited the memorial, it had a moving impact on me,\u201d Magnusson said. \u201cThe design of the reflecting pools and surrounding forest of oak trees provide a place for contemplation and remembrance.
