Seventeen high schools competed and Helix took second place overall.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 19 students qualified to compete at the state championships:<\/p>\n<p>Mahamed Abdulahi \u2014 Original Advocacy<\/p>\n<p>Sada Abdullahi \u2014 Thematic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Lainie Alfaro \u2014 Humorous Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Alvarez \u2013 Impromptu Speaking<\/p>\n<p>Luke Babbitt \u2014 Dramatic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Lucie Blessing \u2014 Original Prose Poetry<\/p>\n<p>Jonathon Bojorquez \u2014 Oratorical Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Eileen Diaz \u2014 Thematic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Marissa Garcia \u2014 Lincoln Douglas Debate<\/p>\n<p>Rilyn Gardner \u2014 Dramatic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Jasper Monteith \u2014 Oratorical Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Katrina Newman \u2014 Oratorical Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Nguyen \u2014 Original Prose Poetry<\/p>\n<p>Chase Osborn \u2014 Lincoln Douglas Debate<\/p>\n<p>Sophie Parker \u2014 Dramatic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Nora Pedraza \u2013 Congress Presiding Officer<\/p>\n<p>Shane Robles \u2014 Thematic Interpretation<\/p>\n<p>Sophia Rogers \u2013 Expository Speaking<\/p>\n<p>Danika Zikas \u2014 Oratorical Interpretation<\/p>\n<p><strong>Winter Sports Accolades<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The wrestling team had a successful season!\u00a0Destiny Lyng finished third in the Girls State Championship.\u00a0Marcus Tucker placed second and Andrew Poumele placed third in the CIF Master\u2019s Meet and earned a trip to the state championship in Bakersfield.<\/p>\n<p>The Boys\u2019 Basketball Team won the CIF San Diego Division II championship, and continued to the state tournament. After working their way through the bracket, they won the Southern California championship game, and will vie for the state championship in Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judges Needed for Senior Boards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Community members are invited to participate as judges for upcoming senior boards. All Helix seniors must complete the senior Project, which entails creating a product, coordinating an event, planning a performance, or providing an actual service that has been designed by them.<\/p>\n<p>The final phase of the senior project is \u201cSenior Boards,\u201d which provide an opportunity for our students to shine and to feel a sense of accomplishment as they demonstrate their knowledge and skills to their community.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Boards will take place on May 23 and 24, from noon\u20134 p.m. Community members are welcome to participate in either or both dates.
