In my speech, I announced seven initiatives that I\u2019d like the county and region to pursue this year:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Let\u2019s be street wise: <\/strong>Ramp up funding to improve county roads within five years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Green light for green projects: <\/strong>Create a sustainable endowment fund to support parks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Confronting the pension challenge: <\/strong>Pursue changes in employee benefits to ensure fiscal health.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare for the silver surge: <\/strong>Hire a \u2018senior czar\u2019 to steer improvements in senior services.<\/li>\n<li><strong>There\u2019s an app for that: <\/strong>Graffiti? Potholes? Gas price gouging? Try the county\u2019s new Tell Us Now! app.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stay battle ready: <\/strong>Tools and tactics to fight crime, wildfire and sex slavery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building a bond: <\/strong>Work with schools to improve community and cop relations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will continue to do all we can to keep our communities safe, remain fiscally sound and to maintain a county government that serves the people and does them proud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>East County\u2019s finest: <\/strong>Presenting county proclamations to those who have distinguished themselves is one of the best parts of my job.<\/p>\n<p>In recent weeks, I\u2019ve had the privilege of honoring folks like Richard Nasif, El Cajon&#8217;s Citizen of the Year.
