I\u2019m Scandinavian through and through. I eventually moved to Washington state and have been living in San Diego for close to three years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While San Diego Musical Theatre\u2019s production of \u201cThe Producers\u201d is a big deal for Hafso, she was also recently featured in a summer smash. Hafso was a performer\/dance captain in the hit revival of Coronado\u2019s Lambs Players Theatre\u2019s musical revue, \u201cAmerican Rhythm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018American Rhythm\u2019 was very physically demanding,\u201d she said. \u201cAlthough the choreography for \u2018The Producers\u2019 isn\u2019t quite as difficult, the singing is more tough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Hafso, the biggest reason the musical succeeds is because of the writing by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan. \u201cA lot of the best jokes occur because of the way they are set up,\u201d she said. \u201cMany of the strongest moments come from the script.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Hafso contributes to her humorous scenes by finding the truth in her character. \u201cI try to put myself in her shoes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>A specific way that \u201cThe Producers\u201d remains exciting to watch at the Spreckels Theatre is due to the use of performers who put their own stamp on the nutty characters. \u201cIt\u2019s fresh, because there is a whole new group of people that haven\u2019t worked together before\u201d she said. \u201cThe ensemble members are very well cast and bring their own take to the material.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Given that the zany night has been adapted by the uproarious Brooks, the entire cast wants to rise to his standard and to be as hysterical as possible. \u201cEveryone tries to bring their all, because of Brooks\u2019 involvement,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Just like the fictitious flop that Max presents early on in the script, \u201cFunny Boy!\u201d, Hafso has been involved with a non-hit Broadway musical, \u201cCatch Me If You Can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that it closed less than five months after opening in New York, Hafso was featured in a critically-praised version from Moonlight Stage Productions in Vista. \u201cThe music is really unique, because it isn\u2019t typical Broadway music,\u201d she said. \u201cI really love that story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unlike that undertaking in Manhattan, audiences were quick to embrace \u201cThe Producers\u201d and the frequently irreverent moments throughout the tale. \u201cIt did so well, because the dialogue makes fun of edgy subject matter,\u201d she said. \u201cThe storyline is really unique.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Screen-Shot-2016-09-23-at-10.05.48-AM.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3224 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/lamesacourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Screen-Shot-2016-09-23-at-10.05.48-AM-240x300.png\" alt=\"screen-shot-2016-09-23-at-10-05-48-am\" width=\"199\" height=\"249\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 199px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 199\/249;\" \/><\/a>Having a fairly breezy tone and hysterical sequences allows the plot to be a massive crowd-pleaser. \u201cThere is something to be said about a musical that is truly lighthearted and funny,\u201d she said. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to sit in a theater and be brought to dark places. You\u2019re going to laugh.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In terms of timing, Hafso feels this is the perfect moment for \u201cThe Producers\u201d to play in San Diego. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of stuff going on in the world that isn\u2019t very happy,\u201d she said. \u201cYou can come and just laugh for two and a half hours. It\u2019s really great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For a performer who only recently moved to East County, Hafso has already left a big impression on theatergoers in America\u2019s Finest City.
