Six was the age he started the<\/em> We have a number of music-related programs planned for the summer months, starting with traditional Middle Eastern dancing by the Arabina Dance Company on June 6. During the remainder of the summer we will have taiko drumming, local singer-songwriter Lisa Sanders, and a lecture on the history of jazz, with a live performance. Both the poetry contest and these upcoming musical performances are sponsored by the Friends of the La Mesa Library.<\/p>\n News from our Friends<\/strong><\/p>\n As Friends of the Library, we\u2019re engaged in creating a comfortable experience for customers. Recently, the Friends and the City of La Mesa funded automatic hand dryers for the library\u2019s public restrooms, saving both paper and landfill space. The Friends are also purchasing roller shades for the hot and sunny south windows of the library, so that we\u2019ll truly be a \u201ccool zone.\u201d We\u2019re able to do this through public support, including generous monetary donations, Friends membership dues and purchases made at the Friends bookstore. If you\u2019re interested in helping support the library, contact the Friends about membership, donation and volunteer opportunities. \n\u00a0 His father agreed with his deep<\/em>
\n masculine voice<\/em>
\n\u00a0 Knowing how much I liked<\/em>
\n jazz and all that razzamatazz<\/em>
\n\u00a0 My grandson learned the tune<\/em>
\n\u00a0 \u201cThe Entertainer\u201d and played<\/em>
\n it well<\/em>
\n\u00a0 It pleased him knowing he<\/em>
\n was pleasing me, <\/em>
\n\u00a0 this I could tell.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 Every now and then he<\/em>
\n would pick up the violin<\/em>
\n\u00a0 \u201cFiddler on the Roof\u201d is what<\/em>
\n he played,<\/em>
\n\u00a0 and when he did it made my<\/em>
\n day.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 The opportunity never occurred<\/em>
\n to me when I was a child<\/em>
\n\u00a0 Getting music lessons was kind<\/em>
\n of wild.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 Those were lean years, hard<\/em>
\n times and fierce.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 So whenever my Ezra plays,<\/em>
\n my eyes overflow with tears.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 Music is a comforting sound,<\/em>
\n\u00a0 From disco, records and radio.<\/em>
\n\u00a0 It\u2019s soothing and comforting for young and old.<\/em><\/p>\n
