The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the community room (#161) of the El Cajon Police Department, 100 Civic Center Way, in El Cajon.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Adaptive telephone information session<\/strong><br \/>\nJan. 28<\/h3>\n<p>Learn about the free adaptive telephone equipment available to anyone who has difficulty hearing, seeing, speaking, moving, remembering or interpreting information through the California Telephone Access Program, which offers specialized phones that make it easier to hear, dial, call and stay connected. Sandra Lambarri Johnson, an outreach specialist for the program, will explain what it takes to qualify. She will also provide information on the state\u2019s Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program and the California Relay Service. The program is part of the monthly \u201cWellness Wednesday\u201d program of the Grossmont Healthcare District\u2019s Herrick Community Healthcare Library.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Spring recreation classes begin<\/strong><br \/>\nFeb. 2<\/h3>\n<p>The City of La Mesa offers dozens of classes for children and adults, including pilates, swimming, tennis, fencing, dance, ceramics and dog obedience. City staff now plan to re-open the pool, at 5100 Memorial Drive, on Feb. 2.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Breakfast with the chief<\/strong><br \/>\nFeb. 10<\/h3>\n<p>The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host a breakfast with retiring La Mesa Police Chief Ed Aceves at Marie Callender\u2019s, 6950 Alvarado Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Attendees will have the chance to meet Aceves and hear his thoughts on policing in La Mesa. The event is open to the public. The price of admission is $20 in advance for guests who are not members of the chamber, or $25 at the door, and includes a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, muffins, fruit, juice and coffee. The Feb. 17 meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Dale Elementary, 4370 Parks Ave. The Feb. 19 meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Murray Manor Elementary, 8305 El Paso St. Both meetings are expected to end by 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Salute to local heroes <\/strong><br \/>\nFeb. 18<\/h3>\n<p>The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host its seventh annual \u201cSalute to Local Heroes\u201d event to celebrate seven police, firefighters, paramedics and senior patrol volunteers. The event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Golden Ballroom of the Town and Country Resort in Mission Valley. The theme is \u201cCome to the Cabaret.\u201d Dinner, a silent auction, raffles and more are all on the agenda along with the installation of the chamber\u2019s new officers.
