The La Mesa-El Cajon Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) are sponsoring a panel discussion about women in the media.
The guest panelists are Delana Bennett from Star 94.1 and I heart radio station; Regina Yurrita representing channel 8 news; Lisa Deaderick a social justice writer for the San Diego Union Tribune and Carolyn Carpenter a playwright, author, and social media entrepreneur.
Prior to the presentation the Branch scholarship recipients will be introduced. The presentation will be Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Foothills United Methodist Church (King Hall) in La Mesa at 10 a.m.
Yurrita is a bilingual reporter for CBS 8; her main beat is capturing stories from underserved neighborhoods and unincorporated areas in San Diego.
Deaderick writes about social justice issues in her Sunday column, as well as influential San Diegans for the One-on-One series that runs on Saturdays.
Carpenter has been a story analyst and reader for filmmakers, agencies, and companies producing many iconic films.
You can hear Bennett Monday through Friday afternoons on STAR94.1, and nationwide on many IHeart radio stations.
Following the discussion with prepared questions there will be a question-and-answer period from the audience. The social begins at 9:30 a.m. and the public is welcome. The event is free.
