U.S. News & World Report has released its 2017 Best Colleges rankings, and the University of San Diego was ranked 86th among the nation’s top national universities. As the youngest private university included on the U.S. News & World Report list of Best National Universities, USD improved by three positions from the 2016 rankings.
U.S. News & World Report also recognized USD in four other areas:
· Best Engineering Schools Whose Highest Degree is a Bachelor’s or Master’s – USD ranks 13th;
· Best Business Programs – USD ranks 94th;
· Best Schools for Vets; and
· A+ Schools for B Students.
“The University of San Diego’s outstanding performance in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings is affirmation of USD’s world-class academic programs, award-winning faculty and thriving alumni network,” said USD president Dr. James T. Harris III. “Our commitment to the liberal arts and engaged scholarship develops graduates with the ability to write and speak effectively, construct and evaluate arguments, apply knowledge in real-world settings, make ethical decisions, and work well in teams to confront humanity’s urgent challenges.”
“In the three years since our school was established, the USD Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering has consistently climbed in the rankings,” said Chell Roberts, PhD, founding dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. “We are very pleased to be ranked 13th in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report list of Best Engineering Schools Whose Highest Degree is a bachelor’s or master’s degree. We are determined to become one of the top 10 programs in the country within the next two years.”
USD’s School of Business 2017 ranking at 94 represents an improvement of 20 rank positions compared to 2016 results. “The 2017 U.S. News & World Report ranking is an important achievement for USD’s School of Business, said dean Jaime Alonzo Gómez. “It is one of several indicators that acknowledges our school’s ongoing progress and efforts to offer our students an outstanding global business education that is academically rigorous, relevant, globally focused and values based.”
