I would like to thank The Peninsula Beacon and Mr. Howard Jones for the wonderful tribute to Jeff Pastorino (“Goodbye to a dear, misunderstood friend,” Sept. 10 Beacon, page 6).  I stopped several times to give Jeff bottled water.  He told me his name and I asked if I could pray for him.  “Sure,” he said, but that was about the extent of our conversation.  Every time I went by I said a little prayer for him.  I appreciate so much the way that Mr. Jones told us the “rest” of the story.  Of course, we will never know the whole story.  I am conflicted as I understand that several people tried to help him but he refused assistance, which was his choice.  As a society we watch, fear, pray for, try and connect with but ultimately Jeff was left to himself and the elements.  Thank you also to the rest of the Point Loma community that at least cared.
