Paddlers to row for the Cure MISSION BAY — The ninth annual Row for the Cure event will take place in Mission Bay on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 7 a.m. The regatta race will begin at South Shores on Mission Bay, pass by SeaWorld, go around Vacation Island and Paradise Point and finish north of Ski Beach. UCSD rowers will be present to offer tips and the Dragon Boat community will offer boat rides. Costs range from $25 to $90. All entry fees and donations will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the cure. Halloween carnival to delight ghosts and goblins PACIFIC BEACH — The Pacific Beach Recreation Center will host a Halloween carnival for the community on Friday, Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will include games, a costume contest and arts and crafts. Tickets for food and games will be 25 cents each. Hot dogs, sodas and popcorn will be just a few of the food highlights. Candy will be handed out as prizes for games. There will also be a cakewalk and, for the lucky few who land on the special number, a cupcake will be awarded. The carnival is open to the public and is free to enter. Halloween celebrations abound POINT LOMA — The local recreation centers will serve up their own frightening offerings Halloween weekend, starting with Cabrillo Recreation Center’s 70th annual community Halloween carnival on Oct. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. The carnival will be held at Cabrillo Elementary School, 3120 Talbot St. For more information, call (619) 531-1534. Fall concert series kicks off in PB Monsterbash ready for another decade of spooking DOWNTOWN — Monster Bash is back for the 10th year in a row on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. until midnight. Sponsored by Dos Equis, the event takes place just outside the Gaslamp District at Seventh Ave. between Market and J streets, and on Island Avenue between Sixth and Eighth avenues. Live bands, deejays and boo-tifully costumed individuals will bring the dark streets to life. A costume contest will give entrants the chance to win $3,000 in cash.
