Expert sushi chefs at Roppongi restaurant and sushi bar will share their valuable knowledge about the art of sushi making in a hands-on monthly “Saturday Sushi School,” complete with a live sushi demonstration, student preparation of their own hand-crafted rolls, and an exquisite three-course lunch with sake pairings to follow at the award-winning Asian fusion restaurant in the heart of La Jolla village. Guests in the Saturday afternoon class, which starts March 3, will get the chance to dig their hands into delicate and fresh ingredients and transform them into a few of the edible works of art offered on the restaurant’s bold and flavorful menu, which combines the best of traditional Asian cuisine with a refined French-style delivery. The class isn’t all work and no play, of course. After indulging in their own, freshly-made California and spicy tuna rolls, guests will get to kick back and let the experts do the work as they are served an amuse bouche of spicy tuna on crispy wontons, a miso and sesame glazed salmon entree served with furikake rice cakes and cucumber shiso salsa, and green tea ice cream dessert for a sweet finish. Each course of the meal will be complemented with refreshing sake pairings to sum up a uniquely delicious afternoon of fun learning and fine dining in an intimate, upscale setting inspired by the colorful nightlife district of Tokyo. After completing the fun-filled course, students will receive a sushi rolling kit and certificate of completion signed by one of the award-winning sushi chefs at Roppongi. The entire course, including the live demonstration, sushi preparation, three-course meal and sake pairing, is $25 per person plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are recommended. Roppongi is located at 875 Prospect St. For more information or to sign up for the course, call (858) 551-5252. Saturday Sushi School will take place on the first Saturday of every month.
