Since 1998, Chef Jean-Michel Diot has been serving up award-winning French-American fusion cuisine at Tapenade Restaurant. While Diot’s delectable hor d’oeuvres, reinterpreted, fresh Gallic cuisine and delicately sweet desserts account for some mouthwatering menu options, the famed chef and his cuisine are not the only reasons to visit the fine-dining, coastal restaurant this summer. Every Thursday evening in August, the Tapenade patio transforms into another time and place with the sultry sounds of multilingual singer-composer Sacha Boutros. Throughout the summer, Boutros transforms the upscale coastal bistro’s patio into a Parisian cabaret with smooth jazz performances of songs by famed French artists like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. Boutros has performed at Tapenade several times in the past few years, but director of special events, Sylvie Diot, said they are delighted to work with her on a regular basis to help establish an authentic cabaret-style ambiance. Diot said that the idea for transformation of the patio into a French cabaret was inspired by the new Woody Allen movie “Midnight in Paris.” “Everybody has been delighted with the movie,” said Diot. “We are excited to continue with this cabaret-style theme.” Tapenade’s happy hour and tapas bar menu features $7 cocktails, $6 wines, $2 off premium wines by the glass and $1 off Corona and Amstel Light beers. Dinner and sunset menus are also available. Guests can enjoy summer Patio Cabaret Thursdays on Aug. 18 or Aug. 25 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tapenade Bistro and Catering is located at 7612 Fay Ave. For more information about menu items or events at Tapenade, visit www.tapenaderestaurant.com or call (858) 551-7500.
