
Mezzadri Surf Classic set for Aug. 15 The 16th annual Tony Mezzadri Surf Classic will take to the waves Aug. 15 in Ocean Beach. The event, which benefits the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Center for Neural Repair’s spinal cord regeneration program, launches from the foot of the OB pier on Newport Avenue at 7 a.m. Entry fees for the event have been rolled back to the original cost of $35. The contest offers a variety of heats for all ages, including the stand-up paddle open division. The celebration will include a barbecue luncheon, live music and opportunity drawings for surfboards. In its previous 15 years, the Tony Mezzadri Surf Classic has raised more than $175,000 for the UCSD spinal cord regeneration program. PB Tennis Club to hold open house Pacific Beach Tennis Club will hold an open house featuring on-court clinics and classes for adults and children that includes prizes and snacks on Aug. 9, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pacific Beach Tennis Club, 2639 Grand Ave. Club professionals Steve Adamson and Simon Shen, as well as members of the San Diego District Tennis Association, will run the free clinics. Adamson captained a team from Pacific Beach, which Shen also played on, that won the USTA National Open League Championships in 2006, the first time a San Diego team has captured the title in 22 years.
