Several local scholastic girls water polo teams have been making a splash in recent play.
At La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School, head coach Nate Heppner and the Lady Torreys moved to a record of 4-6 with two tough losses last week to Mission Bay and Serra.
In a 15-10 loss to Mission Bay, junior Becca Poliner and freshman Amanda Solomon each scored three goals for the Lady Torreys.
“The season is going well, considering we have a very young team (no seniors, three juniors),” Heppner said. “Our goals from here on out are to win as many league games as possible, and hopefully eclipse our win total from last year (six).”
At University City High, head coach Ty Lackey and the Lady Centurions sported a record of 4-9 as of last week.
Among the losses were a pair to the top two ranked teams in the area, The Bishop’s School and Coronado, and one to La Jolla.
Junior Page Squiller has had the biggest impact this year, leading the team with 25 goals, six assists, 22 steals and 27 ejections drawn. Her best game as of last week was against La Jolla, in which she had four goals.
