Regarding the recent article about the La Jolla Cove stench (‘Marine consultant to study La Jolla Cove stench,’ page 4, Feb. 27), may I offer the following: My wife and I were born at Scripps Hospital when it was on Prospect, and there was no seal problem until a few years ago. We recently returned after many years’ absence to live in the old family home. Our son, John Livingstone, who used to live in Seattle, tells this story: Some of the locals got tired of the seals eating their salmon. They rounded up a boatload of seals, and the load was brought down the coast and dumped in the ocean off La Jolla. It was told to us as true; it makes sense, and I have no reason to doubt it!
