The La Jolla Community Center will host literary, music, and art events throughout the month of September on 6811 La Jolla Blvd. The Distinguished Speaker Series started off the month’s events from 5-7 p.m. on Sept. 10, with a reception, book signing and lecture with psychiatrist, author, and superbug survivor, Tom Patterson. The La Jolla Art Association had an exhibition and open house from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14; Rachel and the Pier Group will perform at Dance Night from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20; the Summer “Wine” Down Wine Tasting event is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept 23; and the Danny Green Trio will play original pieces and jazz standards at the Fourth Friday Jazz concert from 8-9:30 on Friday, Sept. 27. BIRCH AQUARIUM TO RELAUNCH TODDLER TIME SERIES
The Birch Aquarium relaunched the Toddler Time Series at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and will continue every Wednesday until May 2020 at the Birch Aquarium, 2300 Expedition Way. Toddler Time is a series of events geared towards guests aged 2 to 5 that will feature activities such as live music, dancing, art, and yoga. Some of this season’s performers include Kathryn the Grape and Hullabaloo. LIBRARY HOSTS SEVENTH ANNUAL FRESH PAINT EXHIBIT
In the seventh annual “Fresh Paint” exhibition, the La Jolla Library will display “Impressions of California Plein Air Artists” from Tuesday, Sept. 17, to Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at the La Jolla Riford Library, 7555 Draper Ave. There will be an artists’ reception from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. The art in the exhibit is for sale, and the proceeds will benefit library programs. The event is free and is on view during regular library hours. Rare art and illustrations by the late Theodore Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) will be on display at the 16th annual Dinner at the Library Gala at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at UC San Diego’s Geisel Library, 9500 Gilman Drive. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will hold an open house starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at UC San Diego’s Extended Studies campus, 9600 North Torrey Pines Road. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a program for adults over 50 that offers daytime lectures, seminars, and guided tours led by renowned university faculty and community leaders.
