The SoCal Scorpions women’s football team has kicked off its season with a 2-0 start following wins over Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
In their first road game of the season last weekend, the Scorpions rolled to a 41-0 win in Las Vegas over the ShowGirlz. With the win, SoCal is tied with the Dallas Diamonds for first place in the American West at 2-0.
In the July 22 home opener in La Jolla, the Scorpions scored a 13-0 win over rival Los Angeles. Carmen Cruz recovered a fumble in the end zone in the third quarter to give the Scorpions a 6-0 lead.
Having failed on a two-conversion, the score remained 6-0 until the fourth quarter, when Scorpion linebacker Toni Matthews picked off a pass and returned it for the score (Heather Winter PAT) to make it 13-0.
Analee Huffman added a late interception to seal the victory for the Scorpions.
The Scorpions are back home at La Jolla High’s Edwards Stadium this Saturday night to face the Houston Energy at 5 p.m.
Edwards Stadium is located at 750 Nautilus St.
