The San Diego Community Newspaper Group was honored with two first place and two second place awards on Wednesday, July 17 from the San Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The journalism contest winners were announced during a ceremony at Kona Kai Resort & Spa on Shelter Island.
Managing editor Thomas Melville earned four awards in the open photography categories. He received first place in the Feature Photo category for “Room with a view” (Beach & Bay Press, July 26), and another first place in the News Photo category for “Locals losing summertime spots to social media” (Peninsula Beacon, July 19). Melville received second place in the Sports Photo category for “Mission Accomplished” (Beach & Bay Press, March 8), and another second place in the Feature Photo category for “OB flips” (Peninsula Beacon, Oct. 25).
