On Sept. 3 from 1 to 6 p.m., the East Village Association will host East Village Random Acts of Art — a free tour highlighting the best local artists and businesses in East Village as part of Art San Diego’s Contemporary Art Fair events. “The East Village is rapidly growing and trying to find some identity, and the identity they’re going for is highlighting art in the East Village,” said Mike Spangler, event coordinator for Random Acts of Art. “We thought we’d put on something cool in association with the fair where people can just hop over the bridge to East Village.” Artists taking part in the event will be matched up with local businesses in various locations throughout the East Village to showcase and sell their artwork, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the East Village Association. Visitors can also take advantage of special promotions like happy hour specials, coupons for spa and salon services and discounts at certain retailers within an eight- to ten-block radius in the East Village neighborhood. At the conclusion of the neighborhood tour, visitors are invited to stop by Space 4 Art, a unique artist gallery and housing facility located at 325 15th St., where emerging artist-tenants will showcase their works throughout the entire facility — including in 35 open artist studios — from 5 to 10 p.m. Marie Thibeault’s collection of complex and layered abstractions, titled “Emanations: Paintings and Works on Paper,” will be on display in the main gallery and eight artists and curators will showcase “8 x 8,” a production of contemporary installations in eight, 8-foot wooden cubes that will be on display. The event will also include onstage performances by local musicians, dancers, designers, writers and filmmakers in “Adjacent Possible” on Space 4 Art’s multilevel stage.
