Your recent article promoting the current exhibit “Bodies “¦ The Exhibition” incorrectly stated that the specimens were “donated.” These cadavers were not donated, they were unidentified and unclaimed bodies of Chinese citizens appropriated for commercial use.
The original users of these bodies never gave their permission for their corpses to be plasticized and displayed as part of a globe-traveling commercial exhibition (at Westfield UTC in University City).
Before handing over the pricey $26 admission fee, consider the homeless and prisoners who’ve been unwittingly cast into this sideshow.
Personally, I’d gladly donate my body to science “¦. but not to PT Barnum.
Editor’s note: Reporters were told during a media walkthrough that the bodies were donated. A background sheet provided by exhibitors says the bodies came from the Dalian Medical
University in China.
