A high-frequency University City bus service known as the “SuperLoop” route has expanded service to the La Jolla Colony area, according to officials with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). SANDAG and Metropolitan Transit Services (MTS) implemented changes to Route 30 on Sept. 5, moving it to La Jolla Village Drive from its current path along Nobel Drive, Lebon Drive and Regents Road. “This change will provide more direct service with shorter trip times for this important regional route that services La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Old Town and downtown,” SANDAG officials said in a statement. The expanded route will include stops at the intersections of Lebon Drive and Palmilla Drive, as well as Regents Road and Arriba Street. It will also serve the University of California, San Diego; the Westfield UTC shopping center; La Jolla Village Square; La Jolla Village Center; and office clusters on Executive Drive and Genesee Avenue. The buses run every day and arrive every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during non-peak hours. The SuperLoop’s Routes 201 and 202 were launched in 2009 with low-emission hybrid buses, and have transported nearly 900,000 passengers in the first year, according to SANDAG officials.
