Several local scholastic boys water polo teams have been securing wins in recent weeks.
At La Jolla Country Day School, head coach Steve Traverso and the Torreys came into action this week at 2-2. LJCD scored a 6-5 overtime win over Mira Mesa last week. Key players were Ryan Frace and Ryan French.
“The boys are getting stronger every game we play, and they are starting to function as a cohesive unit,” Traverso said. “I am excited to see us at the end of the season.”
At La Jolla High, head coach Tom Atwell and the Vikings met rival Bishop’s on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in a neighborhood showdown.
La Jolla to date has scored wins over Mira Mesa, Live Oak, Bellarmine, Atherton, Valhalla, University High (Orange County), Serra, Santana and Mira Costa. La Jolla fell recently in matches to Agoura and Coronado.
The Vikings went a stellar 29-4 last season and finished tied for the league crown and third at CIFs.
Key players this season include Peter Sefton, Noah Orloff, Kyle Loomis and Jake Allen.
“The team is all business this year,” Atwell commented. “There is a feeling that we have lots of unfinished business left to take care of. We hope to compete for the league title against Bishop’s and Coronado and then make a run at the CIF championship game.”
The Bishop’s School continued its winning ways last week with a 12-7 victory over University City High.
Bishop’s will host Scripps Ranch in action this afternoon, Oct. 4.
