The Point Loma women’s track and field team travelled just up the road to participate in the Mangrum Invitational hosted by Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, April 11. The Sea Lions had 13 student-athletes set personal bests at the meet, and three moved into the top 10 on the 2015 PacWest Performance List.
Soliaana Faapouli climbed to fifth in the PacWest in the discus with a throw of 129-11 (39.60m). That mark placed her sixth at the meet. Morgan Brandt posted a career-best time of 26.64 in the 200m dash to win her heat. That time places her ninth on the PacWest. Teammate Demi White placed second in the heat with a personal-best time of 27.11.
Alexandria Hernandez made her way up the PacWest performance list and PLNU record books in the 3k with a time of 10:18.98. While the 3k is a non-championship event, Hernandez still posted the fifth-best time in conference history and the sixth-best in PLNU history.
The Sea Lions also received season-best performances from Bailey Webster (28.40) in the 200m, Stephany Velazquez (1:08.60) in the 400m, Sydney Davis (2:39.88) and Sydney Smith (2:44.66) in the 800m, Hayley Richardson (5:09.52) and Briana Swendener (5:23.43) in the 1500m, Jessica Kroeckel (11.27.15) in the 3k, the women’s 4x800m relay team (9:27.63) and Katelyn Kalley (5-1) in the high jump.
This weekend the Sea Lions squad will be split. Some Sea Lions will participate in the Long Beach State Invitational, while the majority of the squad will compete in the Bryan Clay Invite, hosted by Azusa Pacific.
