After battling to a scoreless tie during regulation time, the PLHS Class of 2019 seniors scored a touchdown during a “California Tiebreaker” system to defeat the PLHS Class of 2020 juniors by a score of 6-0 in the annual Powder Puff football game.
The teams met at midfield for a tiebreaker coin toss by referee Mike Hastings. The seniors won the toss, elected to start on offense, and moved downfield for the winning score.
When the juniors received the ball, the pressure was on. They needed to score a touchdown or face a hard-fought loss.
On their first play, the juniors’ pass was intercepted by a senior to end the game.
The junior team had its chances, moving to just two yards from a touchdown only to be stopped on downs.
A large crowd turned out for the game last week and class pride was evident in the shouts of encouragement from the assemblage.
