Point Loma girls volleyball is in the midst of a successful playoff run in its quest for another San Diego CIF title. The Div. I team was seeded No. 5 out of 16 teams. They have yet to lose a set during two playoff victories. In the first round they defeated No. 12 Otay Ranch and in the quarterfinals ended the season of No. 4 La Jolla Country Day both by 3-0 scores. Next up is a crucial semifinal match against top-seeded Santa Fe Christian in Solana Beach Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. The teams met on Aug. 16 with the Eagles coming away with a 3-0 victory. The winner of this week’s match goes to the finals against the winner of the match between No. 15 Westview and No. 7 Eastlake. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 at host school Cathedral Catholic beginning at 4 p.m. For the season, the Pointers have posted a record of 18-15, finishing 3-5 for third place in Western League behind Open Div. teams Cathedral Catholic ( No. 2 seed) and Scripps Ranch (No. 4 seed), both of whom are still alive in their division to create the possibility of an all-Western League championship match. The Pointers won the state Div. III title last year, made the state Div. IV finals in 2016 and went to the local Div. I quarterfinals in 2015.
