Three Sea Lions were named to the PacWest women’s soccer preseason team, and Point Loma was picked to finish fourth by the league’s coaches.
Morgan Pearce and Keagan Bolibol were each named to the PacWest preseason team as defenders, after helping PLNU post a league-best 0.56 goals against average in 2016. Pearce is a three-time All-PacWest selection and a former D2CCA All-American. Bolibol has earned All-PacWest and all-region honors each of the past two seasons.
The defenders were joined on the 14-person All-PacWest team by midfielder Sami Swanson. The senior is a three-time All-PacWest selection and the 2014 PacWest Freshman of the Year. As a team, the Sea Lions received the second-most first-place votes (three) but ended up in fourth place in the preseason poll with 152 points. Azusa Pacific was picked as the conference favorite with 189 points. The defending conference champions received 10 of the 14 first-place votes. The Point Loma women’s soccer team will open their season on Thursday, Aug. 31 at UC San Diego at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.plnusealions.com.
