This year marks Ocean Beach’s 125th anniversary, and Pizza Port Ocean Beach recently helped the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association (OBMA) celebrate the community milestone recently. The brewpub crafted a special, limited edition brew now being distributed to various restaurants and bars in the Ocean Beach and Point Loma communities. The idea to collaborate with Pizza Port originated with Tevia Schriebman of the OBMA board of directors, who wanted to find a unique way to celebrate the eclectic, beachside community. “This is a big year for OB and we wanted to find something that was uniquely OB to celebrate,” Schriebman said. “We’ve been so lucky to have Pizza Port as a part of our community and I knew they would create a stellar product for us.” The Ocean Beach 125th Anniversary American Pale Ale is light in body and big in flavor, according to the Pizza Port beer profile. The APA brew is generously dry hopped and contains Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade and Columbus hops. A portion of the proceeds from the beer sales will be donated to the OBMA Anniversary Fundraising Campaign, which is currently raising funds to beautify the Ocean Beach community. “We are consistently looking at the ways we can improve our neighborhoods and are excited to put the funds to good use,” said Barbara Iacometti, president of the OBMA’s board of directors. “Money raised through the sales of anniversary merchandise will go toward enhancing the community, with a major focus on the waterfront.” OBMA is also selling 125th anniversary apparel and merchandise to contribute to the fund, including commemorative pint glasses. People can purchase the pint glasses on the OBMA website, or participate in one of several Pint Nights that will be hosted by restaurants and bars carrying the anniversary beer. On Pint Night, when people purchase a pint of the anniversary beer, they can keep the commemorative glass at a discounted price. Pizza Port Ocean Beach hosted the first Pint Night on May 7. This limited edition beer will be exclusively available at these locations: • Bo-Beau, 4996 West Point Loma Blvd. • Kecho’s Café, 1774 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. • Newport Pizza and Ale House, 5050 Newport Ave. • Olive Tree Tasting Room, 4805 Narragansett Ave. • Phil’s BBQ, 3750 Sports Arena Blvd. • Pizza Port Ocean Beach, 1956 Bacon St. • Raglan Public House, 1851 Bacon St. • Sessions Public, 4204 Voltaire St. • Shades, 5083 Santa Monica Ave. • The Harp, 4935 Newport Ave. • The Joint, 4902 Newport Ave. • The Pearl Hotel, 1410 Rosecrans St. The release of the Ocean Beach 125th Anniversary APA is just one of several community events OBMA is hosting. Next month, the second annual OB Beach Ball event helps kick-off summertime with a huge Ferris wheel, live music, action sports and a beachside beer garden. On June 23rd, the 33rd annual Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off Festival is expected to draw tens of thousands to Ocean Beach where there will be five stages of continuous live music, a variety of street vendors, the community art mural project, famed chili cook-off and, new to the event this year, laser tag.
