Neil Charles Edquist, longtime Ocean Beach fixture and businessman, died Dec. 28, 2006, after a sudden illness.
Edquist was born March 20, 1950, in Fresno, Calif., to Nels and Coral Edquist. He attended the University of California, Davis, for many years.
After moving to San Diego in 1977, he quickly discovered his love of Ocean Beach. That same year Edquist joined Audio Video Workshop, where he helped locals with repairs of any and all electronic equipment until 2004.
From the time of his arrival to 1983, he co-owned the shop with business partner and friend Fred Longworth.
Edquist loved helping others with electronics, talking shop or just sharing a drink. A true audiophile, his taste ranged from classic rock to classical, and friends and family will always remember him fondly with music blasting in the background.
Edquist is survived by his father, Nels; his brother, Eric, and Eric’s family; daughters Diana Vance, 26, and Katelynn Coral Edquist, 14; and stepchildren Autumn, Andrew and Rianna. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Coral Edquist.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, at Elim Chapel on the corner of Cape May and Ebers at 11 a.m.
Edquist’s family welcomes all those who knew him to come celebrate his life. Customers of Edquist who are missing VCRs may claim them at the gathering of remembrance, to be held at 4420 Voltaire St. immediately following the memorial service.
