There are plenty of country bands in town playing cover tunes, but finding original music with a bit of twang in its sound is by far more rare. One of the best groups in town that plays its own tunes is the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, featuring frontman Mark Stuart, who appear at Café-Bar Europa on March 30, 9 p.m. The band’s name, approved of by their namesake, gives an idea of their musical approach: hard-hitting, old-school-styled tunes, perfect for swing dancing. While the quintet does include several old favorites in their set list — from Elvis to Waylon Jennings — Stuart’s tunes, like “Texas Sun” are all highlights of the show, slotting well alongside the songs of the band’s musical influences. Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash: Friday, March 30, at Café-Bar Europa, 873 Turqouise St. 9 p.m. 21 and up. No cover. www.theturquoise.com/wordpress
