Anyone looking for the next big thing may want to check out the British rock duo Royal Blood, which opens for the Pixies on Sept. 27 at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. The formation of the two-man band, featuring singer and bassist Matt Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher, is only a smidge over a year old. But it hit the ground running, building a fast fan base with its blistering, bluesy take on rock ’n’ roll. Royal Blood’s rise has been meteoric and well deserved. While the two-man band scenario is no longer a novelty, Royal Blood excels at songwriting, its tunes like “Figure It Out” full of hooks and an excess of melody. With material this strong, it’s no surprise that the band’s self-titled debut album, barely a month old at the time of this writing, hit No. 1 on the U.K. charts. Fans of the likes of Led Zeppelin or Foo Fighters will enjoy every second of this performance, a must-hear stop on Royal Blood’s path to conquering America. • ROYAL BLOOD: Saturday, Sept. 27 at HUMPHREYS CONCERTS BY THE BAY, 2241 Shelter Island Drive. 7:30 p.m. www.humphreysconcerts.com.
